Physician Updates on Ella Bella

Ella had her annual Craniofacial Team appointments this morning.  She rocked them all out and wooed everyone over with her cuteness!  One specialist even asked, "Does she ever get into trouble...she's such a sweetie?!"  I think Matt and I both almost spit out our coffee; she is our trouble maker and for sure the first kiddo we'll find in the principal's office.  It's lucky she's so cute ;)

Today we saw audiology, orthodontics, ENT, plastic surgery, and speech therapy.  Dr. Kolb also stopped by quickly to say hi and see how Ella was progressing.  It's always great to see him!!  We'll forever be grateful for his guidance and expertise in reviewing and advising on the girls' initial files.   Ella's cleft palate repair still looks great.  No holes forming or any concerns of note.  Her teeth look very healthy and the dentist was very impressed with her brushing abilities.  We did learn that since she does not have a baby tooth in the cleft area she will not have an adult tooth grow there either.  So this will need surgery at some point.   Ella did great with the speech therapy eval...you can tell she does this twice weekly already!  But Matt and I don't usually get to sit in so it was cool to see how the therapist role played the sounds for her and how Ella was able to mimic.  The speech therapist was impressed with her progress over the last year.  She mentioned that Ella has some mild nasality to her tone at times which can sometimes mean that kiddos need surgery to repair anatomy for proper air flow.  However, at this point it is not a concern as Ella seems to be working on a lot of different coordination of sounds.  We will check again next year to determine what steps, if any need to be done.  When Ella did her audiology evaluation we learned that her ear tubes are no longer in place and she seems to have fluid build up behind the ear drum.  This showed up on the audiology test as Ella had trouble hearing lower tones through the headphones but when they tested her hearing through bone conduction she was hearing normally.  This means that once the tubes are put back in place she should be hearing normally again.  Which leads us to the ENT appointment, they will be calling to schedule surgery for tube placement.  Overall, I'd say a great appointment!!

She's done so well, she's now the doc :)

First Sleep Over for Ava

Ava and her BFF, Claira have been begging to have a sleep over together for at least 6 months.  Us parents talked it off for awhile but then finally decided that we were not going to win this and realized that if they are going to have there first sleep over we'd prefer it'd be at one of their houses anyway.  So we decided to give it a go over Christmas break.  The girls were SO EXCITED!!  Us parents had a back up plan and made sure Claira knew that at any time her parents would come and get her if she wanted.  Meanwhile the girls came home everyday from school with new plans for the sleep over.  Mainly revolving around rolling Matt and I out of bed when we were sleeping, putting eye shadow on Matt while he's sleeping and dressing him in a princess dress!!  Where do they get this stuff?!!

Claira came over after dinner on a Tuesday night and the plan was for her mom to pick her up the next morning.  The girls played and played and honestly did a great job of including Ella as well into the fun.   Around 9:30pm we decided to sit down and watch a movie to hopefully help them calm down and get ready for bed.  Mom and dad need some sleep... and apparently need to lock our door at night so we don't get rolled out of bed ;)  I had been sending texts to Claira's parents all evening with pictures and to let them know how things were going.  I think my last text was around 10:30pm letting them know that all was well and hoping that they could get some sleep too.  Just as the movie was starting to wrap up; Claira started to cry and ask for her parents.   So we called and of course they didn't mind getting back out in the cold, in the middle of the night to get their "baby".  To be honest, I think all of us parents were rather relieved to know that they still need us even though they act so big most of the time.  Overall it ended up being a great evening for the girls but we'll give the sleep over thing a rest for a little while.

President Trump: Inauguration 2017

I don't even know where to begin...I never thought Donald Trump would actually be President.  I thought it was initially a joke; a tactic for him to gain more riches.  As time has gone on this is clearly not a joke.  I am definitely not a Trump fan but I am praying more than ever that I am so wrong about this man.  Because no matter what; he is my president...he is the president of the United States; my home and land that I love.  It has been an incredibly stressful and hateful election season.  I don't know if it's more than usual because this is one of the first times that I have been so invested in the process.  But from what I hear from people who have been invested in our democracy for many more years agree that it has been a hate filled season.  So many things that have occurred of have been said leading up to this day have terrified me.  I am scared for my girls because they are girls and because they are not white nor were they born in America.  But they are Americans!!  I pray that they will grow up in a nation where they don't have to be afraid but are able to trust those in power.  I pray my girls have faith and trust that they can be whoever they aspire to be.  No one should ever stop them!

As for me, I will pray daily for my president  and pray that he will be a man of integrity who will do what is right for all people.  I pray that God will give him the strength to endure the task at hand and surround him with wise people of character.   I pray that my country is protected and a safe place to be.  I pray that my family is safe and loved.   I pray that my girls never give up on their dreams and strive for everything they want in this life.  I pray that every time they are told they can't do something that they will prove them otherwise.
I pray that President Trump will "Make America Great Again" and kind again and loving again and tolerant again.

No matter where I stand politically, this is a very special day.  We swore in our 45th president!!  I've been watching TV or listening to the news all day to keep tabs on what is happening.  I am so proud to call the US home and be a part of this democracy.

We attended Kindergarten RoundUp with Ava yesterday.  What a bittersweet event.  Ava and her best buddy Claira are so excited for Kindergarten...us parents on the other hand are not so sure we're ready for this next step.  Ready or not; it's coming soon!!
